Leadership

“Positive leadership:
conveying the idea that there is always a way forward.
Critical to doing that is reinforcing the idea that everyone is included. Everyone is part of the team and everyone's contribution is respected.  ”

Alan Mulally, President and CEO, Ford

Developing Leadership

Leadership can inspire or destroy collaboration, engagement and trust.

So here’s your first test: Look yourself in the mirror.

Really look. Pick an average person in your company and put yourself in his or her shoes. Would you be jazzed to wake up and come to work every day?

Would you feel empowered to change processes that are inefficient?

Motivated and happy to contribute?

If you can’t say yes — unequivocally and without hesitation — then something needs to change.

"As we look ahead into the next century, Leaders will be those who empower others." - Bill Gates

As Warren Bennis once said: “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.”

The reason there is such a deep need to develop leadership skills is that the majority of leaders and managers are trained as technical specialists: i.e. they are employed predominantly on the strength of their technical competence and background.

On the technical level, most leaders and managers are very good. But in their role, as inspirational leader-manager, there are some definite gaps, based on widespread disengagement.

The amount of change disrupting most industries and

the pace of accelerating change is putting only more pressure on inadequately trained leadership to navigate unknown territories while needing to unite teams to succeed.

Personal management and leadership skills are essential to enhance an organization's performance in the midst of ever increasing competition, change and disruption.
